WCRC 47804 at Southport St Lukes.1 viewsWest Coast Class 47, 47804 trails at the rear of the 5Z70 ECS working from Southport to Carnforth, passing the site of the island platform of St Lukes Station, closed in 1968. This stretch of railway was electrified to Meols Cop, and as far as Crossens via Hesketh Park & Churchtown on the line to Preston. Short-sighted stupidity in September 1964 saw the line to Preston close, and with it went the electric services that now would be useful to the town.
