Class 503, M28675M at Birkenhead Docks.11 viewsAs the ex Southern Region class 508s entered service on Merseyrail, the withdrawn class 503 sets congregated at Duke Street Wharf in Birkenhead Docks, where they were scrapped. M28675M has suffered some vandalism, and the sorry looking remains were awaiting their fate in July 1984.

Class 501s at Watford Junction.4 viewsLondon District, Class 501 emus gather at Watford Junction on the 19th October 1979. Facing the camera is a 3-car set with driving trailer M61137 leading on a stopping service to London Euston.

55022 crossing Brooksbottom Viaduct.1 views55022-'Royal Scots Grey' crosses over Brooksbottom Viaduct with the 09.37 Ramsbottom to Bury service on Saturday 15th October 2011. This was the first day of the 'Deltic Gathering' Gala on the ELR.

Battery-Electric Locomotive L29 at Harrow-On-The-Hill.3 viewsBattery-Electric Locomotive L29 was at the rear of train of scrap sleepers and rails passing through Harrow-On-The-Hill on the 18th February 2012. L29 dates from 1965 and was built by Metro-Cammell in Birmingham.

HST Power Car 43029 at Dawlish Warren.6 viewsThe changing face of the HST fleet. In InterCity 125 Executive livery, power car 43029 passes Dawlish Warren with a Paddington to Penzance service on the 29th May 1986. The Mark 3 Trailers are still in the original blue & grey livery.

507019 at Hillside.1 views507019 calls at Hillside with a Southport to Hunts Cross service on December 28th 2013. The station at Hillside was opened by the LMS in May 1926 to serve the rapidly expanding Southport suburbs. The station has a substantial brick built entrance and booking office on the bridge that takes the A565 over the line. The station is very close to the Royal Birkdale Golf Club, one of the venues used for the Open Golf Championship.

Withdrawn Class 306 EMUs at Vic Berrys, Leicester.1 viewsWithdrawn Class 306 Liverpool Street - Shenfield electric multiple units, 073, 033 & 066 take refuge under the substantial girder bridge that took Upperton Road in Leicester over the former Great Central Main Line at this once busy location. Dating from 1949 the vintage units were awaiting the call to the adjacent scrapyard operated by Vic Berry on July 19th 1982. The well-worn units had been made redundant by newly built class 315 EMUs from BREL York.

EPS 37601 - Folkestone Harbour.0 viewsAs the tide begins to come in, 37601 sits on the viaduct at Folkestone Harbour with the Pathfinder Tours 'Atomic Harbourmaster' railtour on October 20th 2007. Out of sight at the other end of the train was fellow EPS class 37, 37603. This was one of the last diesel hauled trains to traverse this line. The itinerary on that day included a trip along the Dungeness Branch. It was a long day - an 06.15 start from Crewe on Saturday morning and only getting back to Crewe at 01.24 on Sunday morning!Dec 10, 2015

37013 at Farington Curve Junction.0 views37013 trundles along the Up Slow as it approaches Farington Curve Junction whilst working the Saturday only Blackpool North to Sheffield formed of Mark 1 stock on August 13th 1983. This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

08954 at Plymouth.2 viewsWith the roof tops of Plymouth as a backdrop, 08954 was shunting parcel and mail vans at Plymouth station on July 26th 1980. This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.Nov 07, 2015
