507012 at Hillside Station.8 views507012 awaits custom at Hillside whilst working from Hunts Cross to Southport on June 4th 2011. The station here still retains its booking office located on the road overbridge. Hillside was opened by the LMS in 1926, to serve the rapidly expanding Southport suburb. It is also the closest station to the Royal Birkdale Golf Club, one of the venues for the Open Golf Championship.

142049 at Rufford Level Crossing.1 viewsOne of the level crossing gates at Rufford has not locked into the closed position, as 142049 passes over with an evening Preston to Ormskirk service on 5th May 1988. Rufford became a passing place when the Preston to Ormskirk line was singled in the early 1970s. The mechanical signalling at Rufford was replaced in November 1988, the signalbox was replaced by a cabin on the station platform and the level crossing had barriers installed. The Ford Fiesta waiting at the crossing will also now be long gone.

Class 150/1, 150105 at Chorley.6 viewsA rather battered looking 150105, one of the Derby Etches Park fleet, still in original Provincial Services Livery, stands at Chorley on the 12th August 1989 whilst still in the first stages of its long journey from Blackpool North to Cleethorpes.

Class 507, 507025 arrives at Hillside.8 views507025 slows as it approaches Hillside Station whilst working from Southport to Hunts Cross on June 19th 2004. The unit carries the revised Merseytravel livery, but has white doors to comply with the DDA regulations.

Blackpool Balloon 711 at Starr Gate Depot.0 viewsModified B Fleet Balloon 711 in Flexity style livery was stabled in the new depot at Starr Gate on August 28th 2013. The veteran double deck car dating from 1934 had been recently named Ray Roberts, a former employee of Blackpool Transport who has sadly passed away. The photograph was taken on a RCTS visit to the depot, with kind permission of Bryan Lindop and his team at Blackpool Transport.

ATW 158836 at Conwy.0 views158836 awaits custom at Conwy with the 15.23 Holyhead to Birmingham International on the late afternoon of November 23rd 2013. The arch that the Victorian engineers created to carry the line through the historic town wall is visible at the eastern end of the platforms. The original station here closed in 1966, but was re-opened on the same restricted site in 1987.

EPS 37601 - Folkestone Harbour.0 viewsAs the tide begins to come in, 37601 sits on the viaduct at Folkestone Harbour with the Pathfinder Tours 'Atomic Harbourmaster' railtour on October 20th 2007. Out of sight at the other end of the train was fellow EPS class 37, 37603. This was one of the last diesel hauled trains to traverse this line. The itinerary on that day included a trip along the Dungeness Branch. It was a long day - an 06.15 start from Crewe on Saturday morning and only getting back to Crewe at 01.24 on Sunday morning!Dec 10, 2015

37013 at Farington Curve Junction.0 views37013 trundles along the Up Slow as it approaches Farington Curve Junction whilst working the Saturday only Blackpool North to Sheffield formed of Mark 1 stock on August 13th 1983. This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

08954 at Plymouth.2 viewsWith the roof tops of Plymouth as a backdrop, 08954 was shunting parcel and mail vans at Plymouth station on July 26th 1980. This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.Nov 07, 2015
