483007 at Ryde.2 viewsHaving just emerged from the southern portal of Ryde Esplanade tunnel, 483007 has just passed the Ryde St Johns Road down line, distant signal as it approaches Rink Road bridge with the 17.08 Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin, on the 10th July 2010.

Corus liveried Class 60, 60006 at Toton Yard.1 viewsIn store at Toton Yard, Corus liveried 60006 awaits its fate on the 28th April 2012. The loco was placed in store in 2008. In the background a quintet of Class 66s, 66091/66114/66051/66199 enter Toton Depot.

3-CIG 1497 at Brockenhurst.2 views3-CIG 1497 -'Freshwater' stands in the Lymington Branch Platform at Brockenhurst on September 12th 2009. The blue & grey unit was getting ready to form the 11.29 service to Lymington Pier.
Refurbished along with another 3-Car Unit for use on the Lymington Branch in 2005, they were withdrawn from service on the 22nd May 2010.

Western Class 52, D1021-'Western Cavalier' at Swindon Works.3 viewsWith rust erupting through its paintwork, a forlorn looking D1021 -'Western Cavalier' stands awaiting scrapping at Swindon Works on a dull January afternoon in 1978. The once-proud locomotive emerged new from Swindon in June 1963 in maroon livery, and lasted in service for just over 13 years, being withdrawn from Plymouth Laira Depot in August 1976. During that time D1021 amassed 1,280,000 miles. The loco was scrapped in February 1979. Just visible behind D1021 is fellow Class 52, D1034 -'Western Dragoon'.

158861 at Skipton.0 viewsFlanked by former Midland Railway platform canopies, 158861 stands at Skipton with the 15.20 Carlisle to Nottingham service on January 12th 2014. The service is one of only four southbound passengers over the long drag on a Winter Sunday. Forty years ago the service is likely to have been formed of a class 45 and a good collection of mark 1 stock.

On the right is one of the exhibits of the 'Totally Transport' event, a preserved former Ribble Leyland National 2, DBV 831W dating from 1980.

60065 at Southport.1 viewsWith overgrown sidings dominating the scene from Victoria Street Footbridge, 60065 stands in platform 6 at Southport on the late afternoon of September 18th 2014. The loco was due to depart at 17.15 with the UK Railtours 'The Natterjack', returning to London Euston.

EPS 37601 - Folkestone Harbour.0 viewsAs the tide begins to come in, 37601 sits on the viaduct at Folkestone Harbour with the Pathfinder Tours 'Atomic Harbourmaster' railtour on October 20th 2007. Out of sight at the other end of the train was fellow EPS class 37, 37603. This was one of the last diesel hauled trains to traverse this line. The itinerary on that day included a trip along the Dungeness Branch. It was a long day - an 06.15 start from Crewe on Saturday morning and only getting back to Crewe at 01.24 on Sunday morning!Dec 10, 2015

37013 at Farington Curve Junction.0 views37013 trundles along the Up Slow as it approaches Farington Curve Junction whilst working the Saturday only Blackpool North to Sheffield formed of Mark 1 stock on August 13th 1983. This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

08954 at Plymouth.2 viewsWith the roof tops of Plymouth as a backdrop, 08954 was shunting parcel and mail vans at Plymouth station on July 26th 1980. This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.Nov 07, 2015
