40012/97407 Dock St Sidings Preston.8 viewsKept in service for the Crewe re-modelling project in 1985, and given a departmental number, Class 40, 40012/97407 stands between duties at Dock Street Sidings at Preston on the 26th August 1985. Originally named 'Auerol', the loco was named by a director of the Elder Dempster shipping line, at Liverpool Riverside Station in September 1960.

47608 departs from Blackburn.8 viewsDue to engineering work on the WCML between Preston & Carlisle, all services were diverted via Blackburn, Hellifield & the Settle to Carlisle route, during weekends in the spring of 1988.
Class 47, 47608 climbs away from Daisyfield Junction at Blackburn, and is seen crossing the arches at Beechwood Road with a London Euston to Glasgow Central Service on the 11th March 1988.

'Energy' & 47278 at Preston Docks - Guild 1992.8 viewsDuring Preston Guild 1992, over the weekend of the 2,3 & 4th May, a steam hauled service operated over the part of the revised dock railway. Temporary 'stations' were built at Portway and almost at the end of line, near to the loco depot where the Sentinel Diesel Locomotives were kept. As part of the event, Class 47, 47278-'Vasidae' was also on display. Here at the end of the days operation on the 2nd May 1992, 47278 and Preston Corporation Sentinel, 'Energy' keep company ouside the loco depot.

Class 40, 40013-'Andania' at Blackburn.3 viewsAfter being withdrawn from active service in October 1984, 40013 became a London Midland Region Exhibition Loco, and was towed to Open Days and Gala Days as required. Complete with some gaudy embellishments and carrying its name once more, the loco was stabled in the sidings adjacent to Blackburn Station on the evening of the 27th July 1985. The loco was eventually stored at Crewe in 1988 before passing into preservation. All of the buildings in the background in this view have since been demolished.

EPS 37601 - Folkestone Harbour.0 viewsAs the tide begins to come in, 37601 sits on the viaduct at Folkestone Harbour with the Pathfinder Tours 'Atomic Harbourmaster' railtour on October 20th 2007. Out of sight at the other end of the train was fellow EPS class 37, 37603. This was one of the last diesel hauled trains to traverse this line. The itinerary on that day included a trip along the Dungeness Branch. It was a long day - an 06.15 start from Crewe on Saturday morning and only getting back to Crewe at 01.24 on Sunday morning!Dec 10, 2015

37013 at Farington Curve Junction.0 views37013 trundles along the Up Slow as it approaches Farington Curve Junction whilst working the Saturday only Blackpool North to Sheffield formed of Mark 1 stock on August 13th 1983. This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

08954 at Plymouth.2 viewsWith the roof tops of Plymouth as a backdrop, 08954 was shunting parcel and mail vans at Plymouth station on July 26th 1980. This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.Nov 07, 2015
