Class 50, 50004 at Cowley Bridge Junction.8 次查看In large logo livery, Class 50, 50004-'St Vincent' plods past Cowley Bridge Junction, just north of Exeter with a Paignton to Paddington Service on the 28th May 1981.

Hastings Units at Hellifield.7 次查看At the rear of the 'Long Thin Drag' railtour on the 12th April 1986, a pair of Hastings Power Cars were placed as 'Insurance' should problems arise during this lengthy tour. Set 1032 formed the main section of the train, with power cars from set 1001 bringing up the rear as the tour passed Hellifield during a lucky burst of decent light on an otherwise overcast day.

Deltic 55009 - The End - 2/1/82 - York.3 次查看The magnificent station roof at York reverberates one more time to the magic sound of a Deltic on the 2nd January 1982. 55009 -'Alycidon' was running light engine about 10 minutes in front of the 'Deltic Scotsman Farewell' Tour from Kings Cross to Edinburgh. Number 9 with appropriate front end adornments, paused for a few minutes on the now removed down through road. Not the best of images - taken on a dull January day, hand held on Kodachrome 64 film at 1/15 sec shutter speed.

25323 at Farington Junction.4 次查看Class 25/3, 25323 was stood on the Down Slow Line at Farington Junction during engineering work on Sunday 26th October 1986. The Class 25 was amongst the last batch built at Derby Works in 1967 after production was halted at Beyer-Peacock in Manchester after they hit financial problems. When new to traffic the loco was numbered D7673, it was allocated to London Midland Region Depots for almost 20 years, being withdrawn just 5 months after this image was recorded. It was scrapped in October 1987.

Class 104 E50563 at Lancaster Up Yard.3 次查看Following a minor derailment whilst entering Lancaster with a Leeds to Morecambe service on March 5th 1979, the following day the 4-Car Class 104 set was moved to what remained of the Up Yard at Lancaster for the set to be examined and minor repairs carried out prior to returning to its home depot at Neville Hill, Leeds. Nearest the camera was Composite Driving Trailer E50563. In attendance was a British Rail Commer/Dodge Van, reg no. URC 555S, which was almost new at the time!

Withdrawn 40158, 25141 & 25188 at Wigan Springs Branch Depot.2 次查看Withdrawn locomotives queue up at the northern side of Wigan Springs Branch Depot on April 1st 1984. 40158 was withdrawn due to worn wheelsets in December 1983 and was scrapped at Doncaster Works in September 1984. 25141 was withdrawn in September 1982 and scrapped at Swindon Works in January 1987. 25188 was made redundant in August 1982 and was also consigned to history at Swindon Works in March 1987.

Class 24, 24077 at Swindon Works.1 次查看Withdrawn Class 24 24077 was out to grass at Swindon Works on July 18th 1977. The loco was new from Crewe Works in February 1960 as D5077. It was withdrawn in July 1976 and was scrapped at Swindon in June 1978.

Class 45 45005 passes Dawlish Warren.2 次查看On a rather overcast 8th April 1980, 45005 accelerates a lengthy NE/SW service made up of MkI stock on the Down through road at Dawlish Warren. With mechanical signalling and plenty of loco-hauled trains - Happy Days!

37013 at Farington Curve Junction.0 次查看37013 trundles along the Up Slow as it approaches Farington Curve Junction whilst working the Saturday only Blackpool North to Sheffield formed of Mark 1 stock on August 13th 1983. This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

08954 at Plymouth.2 次查看With the roof tops of Plymouth as a backdrop, 08954 was shunting parcel and mail vans at Plymouth station on July 26th 1980. This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.十一月 07, 2015

47033 arrives at Dawlish.1 次查看47033 and its 6-coach train of Mark 1 coaches has emerged from Kennaway Tunnel and is running alongside a busy looking Marine Parade, as it arrives at Dawlish whilst working a Paignton to Exeter St Davids local stopping service on April 8th 1980.十一月 07, 2015

Class 25, 25221 at Wigan Springs Branch.3 次查看Withdrawn Class 25 25221 pokes out from under Warrington Road bridge at the side of Wigan Springs Branch Depot on June 30th 1984. 25221 was originally D7571, built at Derby Works in 1963, it was withdrawn in January 1984 and after lanquishing for a while at Wigan, was scrapped at Swindon Works in 1986.三月 08, 2015

Class 40, 40082 at Northwich Depot.6 次查看On a damp 9th September 1984, 40082 was stabled outside Northwich Depot between duties. The loco was new from Vulcan Foundry at Newton-Le-Willows in June 1960 as D282. Its first allocation was at York (50A). It spent 13 years as an Eastern Region machine before being transferred to the London Midland Region in 1973. 40082 was withdrawn from service due to power unit damage in November 1984 and was scrapped at Crewe Works in January 1986.

Class 306 EMUs at Leicester (GC).2 次查看Dating from 1949, former Liverpool St-Shenfield Class 306 EMUs, 055, 033, 083 & 078 wait at the entrance to Vic Berrys Scrapyard at Leicester on July 19th 1982. The location is adjacent to the former Great Central Main Line, that last saw a passenger train in 1969 when the DMU service between Rugby and Nottingham was withdrawn. Upperton Road bridge that once spanned the extensive trackwork at this location, was demolished in 2007 - yet another bit of the infrastructure of the old GC Main Line lost forever.二月 13, 2015
