20199, 20028 & 20198 at Dundee.3 次查看Proving that recessions are nothing new, surplus Class 20s were stored surplus to requirements in the NCL warehouse at Dundee on July 20th 1981. This was a period when industry was contracting and work for locos such as these was drying-up. All the locos here eventually returned to traffic, 20199 was eventually withdrawn in 1990, 20028 and 20198 being withdrawn in 1991. All have since been scrapped.

Class 110 Calder Valley DMU E52081 at Manchester Victoria.1 次查看A once familiar sight of a well-worn first generation DMU stood at an equally well-worn Manchester Victoria, on September 28th 1979. A BRCW Class 110 3-car DMU with DMCL E52081, complete with its first class saloon, was bringing up the rear of a tea-time service to Leeds via Halifax and Bradford. The former Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Calder Valley main line was the stamping ground for these units fitted with 180hp Rolls Royce engines for coping with the gradients on the cross Pennine route.

Class 306 EMUs at Leicester (GC).2 次查看Dating from 1949, former Liverpool St-Shenfield Class 306 EMUs, 055, 033, 083 & 078 wait at the entrance to Vic Berrys Scrapyard at Leicester on July 19th 1982. The location is adjacent to the former Great Central Main Line, that last saw a passenger train in 1969 when the DMU service between Rugby and Nottingham was withdrawn. Upperton Road bridge that once spanned the extensive trackwork at this location, was demolished in 2007 - yet another bit of the infrastructure of the old GC Main Line lost forever.二月 13, 2015
