Class 116 DMU at Stratford-Upon-Avon.5 megtekintésOn midsummers day, 21st June 1986, a pair of Tyseley allocated Class 116 3-car DMU sets, with 53872 leading, are seen at Stratford-Upon-Avon with a late evening service to Birmingham. Within a few years this familiar scene would vanish as Class 150s took over local services in the West Midlands area. In 2011, the 150s are being replaced by new Derby built Class 172 DMUs.

Class 47, 47085-'Mammoth' at Starcross.5 megtekintésClass 47, 47085-'Mammoth' arrives at Starcross with an all stations Paignton to Exeter St Davids service in May 1986. The class 47 was one of the small western region batch, named after original GWR locomotives, in the 1960s. The straight nameplates had lettering in GWR style Egyptian serif. Mammoth was named in 1965, and carried the name until 1988, when 47085 became a Railfreight Locomotive. 47085 was scrapped at Wigan CRDC in early 2000.

Class 108 M52051 at Bescar Lane5 megtekintésIn rural West Lancashire, A Class 108 2-Car DMU formed of M52051 & M51936 arrives at Bescar Lane whilst working a Southport to Manchester Victoria service on April 9th 1983. The station here was in a time warp, with an ex LYR Signalbox, timber level crossing gates, semaphore signals and station buildings that had British Rail posters from 1971 announcing the change to decimal currency, and on one board the tattered remains of an LMS poster!

47480 at Vigo on the Lickey Incline.1 megtekintésAn ailing 47480-'Robin Hood' splutters up the Lickey Incline at Vigo whilst struggling to lift a SW/NE service up the 1in37 gradient on September 5th 1981. The loco had expired at the foot of the incline and the following service, hauled by 47035 pushed the train up the bank until the driver of 47480 managed to get the engine re-started. Once underway, 47480 and its train of MkI stock pulled away. The incident caused chaos on a busy Summer Saturday with trains not being able to get a run at the incline.

Class 08, 08340 at Horwich Works.2 megtekintésComplete with shunting pole on the buffers, 08340 one of the works pilot fleet, was surrounded by wheelsets at Horwich Works on August 16th 1980. 08340 had been new from Derby Works in January 1958 as D3410. For the first 8 years of its life the loco was allocated to the Scottish Region. From November 1966 until May 1972, 08340 was based at Lostock Hall, before being transferred to Wigan Springs Branch. Withdrawn from Wigan in August 1981, The loco was scrapped at Swindon Works in March 1982.

Class 08 08710 at Swindon Works.1 megtekintésA study in concentration in A Shop at Swindon Works on May 14th 1984. 08710 has its wasp stripes applied as its overhaul and repaint comes to a conclusion. Not too sure what the Health & Safety brigade would make of this operation these days. 08710 was new from Crewe Works in April 1960 as D3877, it was a Scottish Region allocated machine for most of its 32 year operational life, being withdrawn in January 1993 and scrapped at Motherwell Depot in September the same year.

47089-'Amazon' at Lostwithiel.2 megtekintésWatched by the signalman from the box at Lostwithiel, 47089 -'Amazon' gingerly brings a rake of loaded Clayhoods onto the Cornish Main Line on July 31st 1980. The loco is passing over the level crossing that takes Grenville Road across the line. Lostwithiel is the junction station for the Fowey Branch, closed to passengers in 1965 but kept active with China Clay workings to the Docks. 47089 was one of the original batch of Western Region named 47s, the loco was new from Crewe Works in April 1965 as D1675.

37013 at Farington Curve Junction.0 megtekintés37013 trundles along the Up Slow as it approaches Farington Curve Junction whilst working the Saturday only Blackpool North to Sheffield formed of Mark 1 stock on August 13th 1983. This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

08954 at Plymouth.2 megtekintésWith the roof tops of Plymouth as a backdrop, 08954 was shunting parcel and mail vans at Plymouth station on July 26th 1980. This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.2015. November 7.

47033 arrives at Dawlish.1 megtekintés47033 and its 6-coach train of Mark 1 coaches has emerged from Kennaway Tunnel and is running alongside a busy looking Marine Parade, as it arrives at Dawlish whilst working a Paignton to Exeter St Davids local stopping service on April 8th 1980.2015. November 7.

Class 45 45005 passes Dawlish Warren.2 megtekintésOn a rather overcast 8th April 1980, 45005 accelerates a lengthy NE/SW service made up of MkI stock on the Down through road at Dawlish Warren. With mechanical signalling and plenty of loco-hauled trains - Happy Days!2015. Október 2.

Class 25, 25221 at Wigan Springs Branch.3 megtekintésWithdrawn Class 25 25221 pokes out from under Warrington Road bridge at the side of Wigan Springs Branch Depot on June 30th 1984. 25221 was originally D7571, built at Derby Works in 1963, it was withdrawn in January 1984 and after lanquishing for a while at Wigan, was scrapped at Swindon Works in 1986.2015. 08457 at Rugby.1 megtekintésOn a damp May 17th 1981, 08457 spends Sunday Afternoon sheltering in one of the bay platforms under the LNWR overall roof at Rugby.2015. Március 8.

Class 40, 40082 at Northwich Depot.6 megtekintésOn a damp 9th September 1984, 40082 was stabled outside Northwich Depot between duties. The loco was new from Vulcan Foundry at Newton-Le-Willows in June 1960 as D282. Its first allocation was at York (50A). It spent 13 years as an Eastern Region machine before being transferred to the London Midland Region in 1973. 40082 was withdrawn from service due to power unit damage in November 1984 and was scrapped at Crewe Works in January 1986.

Class 306 EMUs at Leicester (GC).2 megtekintésDating from 1949, former Liverpool St-Shenfield Class 306 EMUs, 055, 033, 083 & 078 wait at the entrance to Vic Berrys Scrapyard at Leicester on July 19th 1982. The location is adjacent to the former Great Central Main Line, that last saw a passenger train in 1969 when the DMU service between Rugby and Nottingham was withdrawn. Upperton Road bridge that once spanned the extensive trackwork at this location, was demolished in 2007 - yet another bit of the infrastructure of the old GC Main Line lost forever.2015. Február 13.
