Warship 818 at Swindon Works.5 megtekintésThe lost Warship. After being withdrawn from active service in 1972, Class 42 Warship, 818-'Glory' was 'preserved' at Swindon Works, and over the years became a gate guardian usually on display near the turntable, in full view from passing trains on the main line. The closure of Swindon Works, announced in GWR150 year, saw the planned exhibition at Swindon Works cancelled, and in 1986 as the rundown of the works began, 818 was put to the torch.

Cravens Class 105 M50784 at Morecambe Promenade.5 megtekintésIn the 1970s a ride on one of these was something to be avoided, rattles, the smell of diesel, and noise from the underfloor engines all adding to the experience. Now 30 years on, having suffered Class 142s, a ride on a Cravens DMU would be quite luxurious. On May 6th 1979, M50784 was at Morecambe Promenade Station with a departure to Preston. The former Midland Railway Station here, was closed in 1994, despite its Seafront location. The 'new' Morecambe Station is now sited nearer the town centre.

Class 45, 45051 arrives at Exeter St Davids.2 megtekintésVery much a routine sight at the time, 45051 slips into Exeter St Davids with a lengthy NE/SW service formed of MkI stock on July 27th 1978. The former GWR bracket signals are still in use, and what was the Exe Valley bay platform on the right is full of parcel vans waiting to be loaded. Along the platform can be seen BRUTE trollies, another common sight at every main station, they too along with the Peak, the MkIs and the vintage signals belong to a vanished world.

Class 306 EMUs at Leicester (GC).2 megtekintésDating from 1949, former Liverpool St-Shenfield Class 306 EMUs, 055, 033, 083 & 078 wait at the entrance to Vic Berrys Scrapyard at Leicester on July 19th 1982.
