Class 506 EMU, M59406M at Horwich Works.6 megtekintésManchester Glossop Hadfield, 1500v DC emu driving trailer, M59406M, was undergoing an overhaul in the main erecting shop at Horwich Works on the 16th August 1980.

47569 arrives at Dawlish.10 megtekintésIn the days when a cross country holiday train from the West Country on a summer Saturday warranted 9 coaches, a buffet car & 2 full brakes for the luggage, 47569 complete with silver roof, arrives at Dawlish with a Plymouth to Newcastle working on the 28th May 1987. Happy Days!

40013 passes Farington Junction.2 megtekintésWith the Leyland Truck & Bus Factory as a backdrop, Class 40 40013 hurries the 11-Coach F&W Railtours 'Cumbrian Whistler' past Farington Junction on the 6th October 1984. The tour had started at Plymouth and 40013 handled the leg from Birmingham New Street to Preston. The train eventually reached journeys end at Workington behind 40028. This was a real swansong for 40013 with a passenger working on the WCML as in days of old, the loco being withdrawn from service just 12 days after this image was recorded.

Class 306 EMU, 055 at Berrys Scrapyard Leicester.3 megtekintésDating from 1949, a withdrawn Class 306 'Liverpool Street-Shenfield' EMU 055 awaits its fate at the entrance to Vic Berrys Scrapyard in Leicester on the 19th July 1982. The unit is standing in the entrance to what was once the Goods Yard situated at the side of the old Great Central Main Line, just South of Leicester Central Station. The formation of the main line is to the left of the unit, with the former Great Central Railway Goods Warehouse at Leicester Central visible on the horizon on the far left.

Class 101 3-Car DMU at Dawlish.4 megtekintésA Metro-Cam Class 101 3-Car DMU, with 51219 leading, departs from Dawlish with an evening Exeter St Davids to Paignton all-stations service on the 31st May 1989.

DMUs at Newton Heath Depot.4 megtekintésGolden light at Newton Heath Depot on the very early morning of September 15th 1990. In the foreground are withdrawn Class 104s, M53421 & M53464, with M53493 & M53444 on the adjacent siding. In the left background is a split 2-Car Class 101, with the DMBS having some bodyside damage. Also present were two Class 115 Suburban DMU cars, 53839 & 53842.

Withdrawn Class 306 EMUs at Vic Berrys, Leicester.1 megtekintésWithdrawn Class 306 Liverpool Street - Shenfield electric multiple units, 073, 033 & 066 take refuge under the substantial girder bridge that took Upperton Road in Leicester over the former Great Central Main Line at this once busy location. Dating from 1949 the vintage units were awaiting the call to the adjacent scrapyard operated by Vic Berry on July 19th 1982. The well-worn units had been made redundant by newly built class 315 EMUs from BREL York.

HST 253011 (W43022) at Truro.3 megtekintésHST set 253011 with Power Car W43022 leading arrives at Truro under the watchful gaze of three BR staff, with a London Paddington to Penzance service on July 21st 1980. In the Goods Facility to right is ex-works 37275 and two new Mark 3 Coaches, (W41147 & W44015) along with the NRM Stephenson's 'Rocket' Replica and Coach. There was a BR mini exhibition being held entitled 'The Age of the Train' and promoting BR services to London. 34 years on and Power Car 43022 is still active with First Great Western.

37013 at Farington Curve Junction.0 megtekintés37013 trundles along the Up Slow as it approaches Farington Curve Junction whilst working the Saturday only Blackpool North to Sheffield formed of Mark 1 stock on August 13th 1983. This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

08954 at Plymouth.2 megtekintésWith the roof tops of Plymouth as a backdrop, 08954 was shunting parcel and mail vans at Plymouth station on July 26th 1980. This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.2015. November 7.

47033 arrives at Dawlish.1 megtekintés47033 and its 6-coach train of Mark 1 coaches has emerged from Kennaway Tunnel and is running alongside a busy looking Marine Parade, as it arrives at Dawlish whilst working a Paignton to Exeter St Davids local stopping service on April 8th 1980.2015. November 7.

Class 45 45005 passes Dawlish Warren.2 megtekintésOn a rather overcast 8th April 1980, 45005 accelerates a lengthy NE/SW service made up of MkI stock on the Down through road at Dawlish Warren. With mechanical signalling and plenty of loco-hauled trains - Happy Days!2015. Október 2.

Class 25, 25221 at Wigan Springs Branch.3 megtekintésWithdrawn Class 25 25221 pokes out from under Warrington Road bridge at the side of Wigan Springs Branch Depot on June 30th 1984. 25221 was originally D7571, built at Derby Works in 1963, it was withdrawn in January 1984 and after lanquishing for a while at Wigan, was scrapped at Swindon Works in 1986.2015. Class 40, 40082 at Northwich Depot.6 megtekintésOn a damp 9th September 1984, 40082 was stabled outside Northwich Depot between duties. The loco was new from Vulcan Foundry at Newton-Le-Willows in June 1960 as D282. Its first allocation was at York (50A). It spent 13 years as an Eastern Region machine before being transferred to the London Midland Region in 1973. 40082 was withdrawn from service due to power unit damage in November 1984 and was scrapped at Crewe Works in January 1986.

Class 306 EMUs at Leicester (GC).2 megtekintésDating from 1949, former Liverpool St-Shenfield Class 306 EMUs, 055, 033, 083 & 078 wait at the entrance to Vic Berrys Scrapyard at Leicester on July 19th 1982. The location is adjacent to the former Great Central Main Line, that last saw a passenger train in 1969 when the DMU service between Rugby and Nottingham was withdrawn. Upperton Road bridge that once spanned the extensive trackwork at this location, was demolished in 2007 - yet another bit of the infrastructure of the old GC Main Line lost forever.2015. Február 13.
