This service was in the tradition of the 'withered arm' - Summer holiday trains from London working into deepest Devon on former Southern territory. Exeter St Davids was still controlled by GWR/Western Region Lower Quadrant Signals. Alongside 31414 is a loaded Brute trolley filled with parcels, destined for the vans stabled in the former Exe Valley Bay Platform.
