Class 47, 47503 at Dent.4 閲覧High up in the Yorkshire Dales, at Englands highest main line station, with frost still on the sleepers in late morning, Class 47, 47503 calls at Dent with five Mark 1 coaches forming a Leeds to Carlisle stopping service on the 8th December 1987. This was a lean period for the Settle & Carlisle Line, with only a handful of passenger trains daily, and virtually no freight, the line was under threat of closure.

Class 40, 40013-'Andania' at Blackburn.3 閲覧After being withdrawn from active service in October 1984, 40013 became a London Midland Region Exhibition Loco, and was towed to Open Days and Gala Days as required. Complete with some gaudy embellishments and carrying its name once more, the loco was stabled in the sidings adjacent to Blackburn Station on the evening of the 27th July 1985. The loco was eventually stored at Crewe in 1988 before passing into preservation. All of the buildings in the background in this view have since been demolished.

Class 108, M50968 at Preston.5 閲覧Complete with its oil tail lamp, Derby built Class 108, Driving Motor Brake Second, M50968 stands in Bay Platform 3A at Preston on May 15th 1978. The unit was working Preston to Ormskirk services.

50049 -'Defiance' at Exeter St Davids.4 閲覧The station clock is at 15.32 on the 25th July 1987, as 50049 -'Defiance' prepares to depart from Exeter St Davids with a service to London Waterloo. Later that year 50049 had a radical transformation into a Railfreight machine, renumbered 50149.

47551 at Poulton-Le-Fylde4 閲覧47551 crosses over the junction with the line to Fleetwood as it approaches Poulton-Le-Fylde whilst working the Saturday Only Blackpool North to Glasgow Central service on June 17th 1989. The line to Fleetwood saw its last regular passenger service in 1970. The line was retained to serve the ICI works beyond Thornton-Cleveleys. Currently, the Poulton & Wyre Railway Society are aiming to have passenger trains running along the line once more.

3H Class 205, 1124 enters Southampton Central.4 閲覧3H 'Hampshire' Class 205 DEMU enters Southampton Central on a dull July 28th 1978 with a service for Portsmouth & Southsea. The unit is passing the utilitarian brick signalbox constructed by the Southern Railway in 1935.

47480 at Vigo on the Lickey Incline.1 閲覧An ailing 47480-'Robin Hood' splutters up the Lickey Incline at Vigo whilst struggling to lift a SW/NE service up the 1in37 gradient on September 5th 1981. The loco had expired at the foot of the incline and the following service, hauled by 47035 pushed the train up the bank until the driver of 47480 managed to get the engine re-started. Once underway, 47480 and its train of MkI stock pulled away. The incident caused chaos on a busy Summer Saturday with trains not being able to get a run at the incline.

Class 08, 08340 at Horwich Works.2 閲覧Complete with shunting pole on the buffers, 08340 one of the works pilot fleet, was surrounded by wheelsets at Horwich Works on August 16th 1980. 08340 had been new from Derby Works in January 1958 as D3410. For the first 8 years of its life the loco was allocated to the Scottish Region. From November 1966 until May 1972, 08340 was based at Lostock Hall, before being transferred to Wigan Springs Branch. Withdrawn from Wigan in August 1981, The loco was scrapped at Swindon Works in March 1982.

37013 at Farington Curve Junction.0 閲覧37013 trundles along the Up Slow as it approaches Farington Curve Junction whilst working the Saturday only Blackpool North to Sheffield formed of Mark 1 stock on August 13th 1983. This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

08954 at Plymouth.2 閲覧With the roof tops of Plymouth as a backdrop, 08954 was shunting parcel and mail vans at Plymouth station on July 26th 1980. This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.2015年 11月 07日

47033 arrives at Dawlish.1 閲覧47033 and its 6-coach train of Mark 1 coaches has emerged from Kennaway Tunnel and is running alongside a busy looking Marine Parade, as it arrives at Dawlish whilst working a Paignton to Exeter St Davids local stopping service on April 8th 1980.2015年 11月 07日

Class 45 45005 passes Dawlish Warren.2 閲覧On a rather overcast 8th April 1980, 45005 accelerates a lengthy NE/SW service made up of MkI stock on the Down through road at Dawlish Warren. With mechanical signalling and plenty of loco-hauled trains - Happy Days!2015年 10月 02日

Class 25, 25221 at Wigan Springs Branch.3 閲覧Withdrawn Class 25 25221 pokes out from under Warrington Road bridge at the side of Wigan Springs Branch Depot on June 30th 1984. 25221 was originally D7571, built at Derby Works in 1963, it was withdrawn in January 1984 and after lanquishing for a while at Wigan, was scrapped at Swindon Works in 1986.2015年 03月 08日

Class 40, 40082 at Northwich Depot.6 閲覧On a damp 9th September 1984, 40082 was stabled outside Northwich Depot between duties. The loco was new from Vulcan Foundry at Newton-Le-Willows in June 1960 as D282. Its first allocation was at York (50A). It spent 13 years as an Eastern Region machine before being transferred to the London Midland Region in 1973. 40082 was withdrawn from service due to power unit damage in November 1984 and was scrapped at Crewe Works in January 1986.

Class 306 EMUs at Leicester (GC).2 閲覧Dating from 1949, former Liverpool St-Shenfield Class 306 EMUs, 055, 033, 083 & 078 wait at the entrance to Vic Berrys Scrapyard at Leicester on July 19th 1982. The location is adjacent to the former Great Central Main Line, that last saw a passenger train in 1969 when the DMU service between Rugby and Nottingham was withdrawn. Upperton Road bridge that once spanned the extensive trackwork at this location, was demolished in 2007 - yet another bit of the infrastructure of the old GC Main Line lost forever.2015年 02月 13日
