Warship 818 at Swindon Works.Просмотров: 5The lost Warship. After being withdrawn from active service in 1972, Class 42 Warship, 818-'Glory' was 'preserved' at Swindon Works, and over the years became a gate guardian usually on display near the turntable, in full view from passing trains on the main line. The closure of Swindon Works, announced in GWR150 year, saw the planned exhibition at Swindon Works cancelled, and in 1986 as the rundown of the works began, 818 was put to the torch.

Class 110 'Calder Valley' E52080 at Skipton.Просмотров: 4Almost at the end of its BR career, a Class 110 'Calder Valley' DMU with E52080 leading, awaits departure from Skipton whilst working from Morecambe to Leeds on May 6th 1989. Fitted with Rolls-Royce engines, the original 3-Car sets were introduced in 1961 for use on the steeply graded ex LYR Calder Valley route between Manchester Victoria, Bradford & Leeds. A partial refurbishment during the early 1980s saw many of the sets reduced to 2-Cars to save money.

Class 55 Deltic 55002 at Selby.Просмотров: 2In the good old days when Selby was on the East Coast Main Line, Deltic 55002 -'The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry' has double ambers as it awaits departure at dusk whilst working a York to London Kings Cross service on October 12th 1980. This was just prior to the loco coming under the wing of the NRM, and whilst staying active on ECML & excursion/railtour duties, 55002 was returned to green livery and eventual preservation as part of the national collection. Note the centre roads, now a memory.

Class 306 EMUs at Leicester (GC).Просмотров: 2Dating from 1949, former Liverpool St-Shenfield Class 306 EMUs, 055, 033, 083 & 078 wait at the entrance to Vic Berrys Scrapyard at Leicester on July 19th 1982. The location is adjacent to the former Great Central Main Line, that last saw a passenger train in 1969 when the DMU service between Rugby and Nottingham was withdrawn. Upperton Road bridge that once spanned the extensive trackwork at this location, was demolished in 2007 - yet another bit of the infrastructure of the old GC Main Line lost forever.Фев 13, 2015
