Class 304, 011 at Longsight Depot.8 zobrazeníIn original 4-Car formation, Class 304 set number 011, is stabled at Longsight Depot with a sister unit in September 1979. The first batch of class 304s, 001-015 were built at Wolverton in 1960.

Deltic 55021 at York.8 zobrazeníYork in the good old days......Class 55 Deltic, 55021-'Argyll & Sutherland Highlander' pauses at York with a Edinburgh to London Kings Cross service on June 19th 1979. The loco was new from Vulcan Foundry at Newton-Le-Willows in March 1962, and survived in service until the last active day of Deltic ECML running on the 31st December 1981, completing 19 Years and 9 months of running. 55021 was scrapped at Doncaster Works in September 1982.

Cravens Class 105, M50784 at Blackburn.3 zobrazeníWith the former Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Station at Blackburn as a backdrop, Cravens 105, M50784 was in the West facing bay platform with a service to Manchester Victoria, via Bolton in September 1979. These distinctive power-twin units were associated with the ex LYR routes in Lancashire for nearly 30 years. Blackburn Station was the last of the large L&Y stations to remain intact with its overall roof and iron & glass canopies, all since replaced by modern structures in the name of progress.

Class 47, 47426 at Kirkham North Junction.4 zobrazeníClass 47, 47426 takes the station avoiding line at Kirkham North Junction whilst working the Saturdays Only Blackpool North to Glasgow Central service on September 24th 1988. Stabled in the sidings are a rake of 'Turbot' departmental ballast/spoil wagons.

08001 at Swindon Works.5 zobrazeníIn the British Rail TOPS numbering system, 08001 was numerically the first of the class, but actually the fifth 08 to come off the production line at Derby in 1952, numbered 13004. The loco was withdrawn from service in June 1978 from Gateshead Depot and was sent to Swindon Works for disposal. 08001 is seen awaiting its fate, having been stripped of useful components, the loco was stood outside Swindons famous A Shop in February 1979. In the yard beyond is a Presflo Wagon, an LMS CCT Van & 6w Milk Tanks.

Class 45, 45022-'Lytham St Annes' on the Lickey Incline.5 zobrazení45022 -'Lytham St Annes' plods upgrade almost at the summit of the Lickey Incline with a northbound working formed mainly of Mk2 stock on September 5th 1981. This brings back fond memories of a excellent day, 32 years ago, at the lineside with my old friend Roger Sutcliffe. A warm sunny day, pleasant location and a procession of locomotive hauled trains in both directions. Happy Days!

47446 with the Paddington TPO at Penzance.4 zobrazení47446 was stabled with the stock of the Royal Mail TPO service to London Paddington (1A01) at Penzance on the afternoon of July 28th 1979. Just like the TPO, 47446 is no longer with us. New from Crewe Works in April 1964 numbered D1563, the loco was in service for nearly 28 years, being withdrawn from service in February 1992. 47446 was scrapped at Old Oak Common in 1997.

HST Power Car E43107 at Selby.2 zobrazeníSurrounded by infrastructure of the past, the driver of HST Power Car E43107 accelerates onto the Up through road at Selby with an Edinburgh Waverley to London Kings Cross ECML service on September 12th 1981. The HST has just negotiated the 40mph speed limit over the Swing Bridge that was the bottleneck on East Coast Main Line traffic through Selby. Although Selby is no longer on the ECML, 43107 now renumbered 43307 is still in service with East Coast.

37013 at Farington Curve Junction.0 zobrazení37013 trundles along the Up Slow as it approaches Farington Curve Junction whilst working the Saturday only Blackpool North to Sheffield formed of Mark 1 stock on August 13th 1983. This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

08954 at Plymouth.2 zobrazeníWith the roof tops of Plymouth as a backdrop, 08954 was shunting parcel and mail vans at Plymouth station on July 26th 1980. This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.07. November 2015

47033 arrives at Dawlish.1 zobrazení47033 and its 6-coach train of Mark 1 coaches has emerged from Kennaway Tunnel and is running alongside a busy looking Marine Parade, as it arrives at Dawlish whilst working a Paignton to Exeter St Davids local stopping service on April 8th 1980.07. November 2015

Class 45 45005 passes Dawlish Warren.2 zobrazeníOn a rather overcast 8th April 1980, 45005 accelerates a lengthy NE/SW service made up of MkI stock on the Down through road at Dawlish Warren. With mechanical signalling and plenty of loco-hauled trains - Happy Days!02. Október 2015

Class 25, 25221 at Wigan Springs Branch.3 zobrazeníWithdrawn Class 25 25221 pokes out from under Warrington Road bridge at the side of Wigan Springs Branch Depot on June 30th 1984. 25221 was originally D7571, built at Derby Works in 1963, it was withdrawn in January 1984 and after lanquishing for a while at Wigan, was scrapped at Swindon Works in 1986.08. Class 40, 40082 at Northwich Depot.6 zobrazeníOn a damp 9th September 1984, 40082 was stabled outside Northwich Depot between duties. The loco was new from Vulcan Foundry at Newton-Le-Willows in June 1960 as D282. Its first allocation was at York (50A). It spent 13 years as an Eastern Region machine before being transferred to the London Midland Region in 1973. 40082 was withdrawn from service due to power unit damage in November 1984 and was scrapped at Crewe Works in January 1986.

Class 306 EMUs at Leicester (GC).2 zobrazeníDating from 1949, former Liverpool St-Shenfield Class 306 EMUs, 055, 033, 083 & 078 wait at the entrance to Vic Berrys Scrapyard at Leicester on July 19th 1982. The location is adjacent to the former Great Central Main Line, that last saw a passenger train in 1969 when the DMU service between Rugby and Nottingham was withdrawn. Upperton Road bridge that once spanned the extensive trackwork at this location, was demolished in 2007 - yet another bit of the infrastructure of the old GC Main Line lost forever.13. Február 2015
