Master & Slave Class 13s at Tinsley Yard.Переглядів: 7A pair of the Class 13 'Master & Slave' shunters, 13001 & 13003, bask in the winter sunshine between duties in January 1979. Created for use in Sheffield Tinsley Marshalling Yard, they, like the yard that was their stamping ground, are but a memory.

Hastings Units at Hellifield.Переглядів: 7At the rear of the 'Long Thin Drag' railtour on the 12th April 1986, a pair of Hastings Power Cars were placed as 'Insurance' should problems arise during this lengthy tour. Set 1032 formed the main section of the train, with power cars from set 1001 bringing up the rear as the tour passed Hellifield during a lucky burst of decent light on an otherwise overcast day.

Ex BR 03012 at Snailwell.Переглядів: 6Still in full BR blue livery, and carrying its TOPS number 03012, the yards Class 03 diesel shunter is at the rear of three stripped BR Mark 1 First Class Corridor Coaches, ready for positioning in the firing tunnel at Kings Scrapyard at Snailwell on the 29th November 1980. A rake of Mark 1 Sleeping Cars await their fate on the right. As happens with many scrapyard shunting locomotives, 03012 found it a hazardous place to work, as the loco was broken up for scrap here in 1991.

73001 arrives at Southampton Central.Переглядів: 4A pair of Southern Region rail built home signals act as gate guardians, as a very smart looking 73001 enters Southampton Central with a short mail/parcels working bound for Weymouth on July 28th 1978. The first of the Class 73 Electro-Diesels, 73001 emerged from Eastleigh Works in February 1962 as E6001. The class was indigenous to the Southern Region for most of their working lives, but in a bizarre twist, five 73s ended up on Merseyside in the 1990s, including the locomotive seen here.

47441 at Daisyfield, Blackburn.Переглядів: 0With some well known landmarks in Blackburn town-centre on the skyline, 47441 accelerates a diverted Birmingham New Street to Edinburgh service away from Daisyfield Junction on March 11th 1989. The train is heading for Hellifield and the S&C. In the foreground is the derelict site of Daisyfield Goods Yard, once a busy location serving the local Cotton Mills that were a major employer in East Lancashire. 47441 emerged from Crewe Works in February 1964 as D1557. The loco was withdrawn in December 1992.

Class 306 EMUs at Leicester (GC).Переглядів: 2Dating from 1949, former Liverpool St-Shenfield Class 306 EMUs, 055, 033, 083 & 078 wait at the entrance to Vic Berrys Scrapyard at Leicester on July 19th 1982. The location is adjacent to the former Great Central Main Line, that last saw a passenger train in 1969 when the DMU service between Rugby and Nottingham was withdrawn. Upperton Road bridge that once spanned the extensive trackwork at this location, was demolished in 2007 - yet another bit of the infrastructure of the old GC Main Line lost forever.Лют 13, 2015
