Class 506 1500vDC emu at Godley Junction.Переглядів: 6In the last few weeks of 1500VDC Class 506 emus, in November 1984, M59407M draws into Godley Junction with a Manchester Piccadilly to Hadfield service.
The Class 506s finally bowed out on the 7th December 1984, when the line was converted to standard 25KvAC. Godley Junction Station closed in May 1995.

Class 76s at Woodhead.Переглядів: 6Class 76, 76036 and an unidentified classmate, head a loaded train of HAAs out of Woodhead Tunnel in August 1977. The train will be heading for Fidders Ferry Power Station, near Warrington. To the left of the train can be seen the original 1845 Up Line single bore tunnel, which since 1963 has carried National Grid power lines under the Pennines. The tunnel has a 2ft gauge railway for maintenance purposes.

Deltic 55016-'Gordon Highlander' at Doncaster Works.Переглядів: 7A work-stained Class 55 Deltic, 55016-'Gordon Highlander', stands in the yard adjacent to the Crimpsall Shop at Doncaster Works in October 1979. These were the twilight years of the Deltics, 55001 & 55020 had already been sidelined at this time, 55016 lasted in frontline service until the end of Class 55 operation in December 1981, the locomotive completing 20 years ECML service.

40106 at Reddish Electric Depot.Переглядів: 7When 40106 was the last operational green liveried Class 40 in 1978, the loco entered Crewe Works for an overhaul and repaint, it should have emerged in rail blue, but to everyones amazement it was given a repaint in BR green. The loco was stabled at Reddish Electric Depot on the 12th July 1981, surrounded by soon to be made redundant class 76 Tommies, closure of the Woodhead route was only a week away. The class 40 was built at the Robert Stephensons & Hawthorns Works at Darlington in 1960, numbered D306.

31432 at Burscough Bridge.Переглядів: 431432 calls at Burscough Bridge whilst en-route to Southport with the 17.19 service from Manchester Victoria on the 14th June 1994.

Class 20 20015 at Frodingham Depot.Переглядів: 320015 one of the early batch of English Electric Type 1s, stands at Frodingham Depot on September 28th 1980. The loco was coupled to the depot breakdown/re-railing train vehicles which included two former Mark 1 BSKs, DB975127 (ex 34414) & DB975118 (ex 34265) and an ex Blue Spot Insulated Fish Van, DE975329 (ex 88038).

Class 304 (AM4) 035 at Stafford.Переглядів: 2Almost a total 1960's scene at Stafford on the evening of September 19th 1978, as Class 304, Set 035 still in 4-Car formation with its first class saloon calls en-route to Rugby. The station at Stafford was a product of the massive investment and upgrade of the Premier Line in the mid 1960's when the electrification was completed from Liverpool & Crewe to London Euston. The 304s shared the semi-fast services along with the AM10 units. The 304s were built in two batches at Wolverton with 45 sets being built.

47033 arrives at Dawlish.Переглядів: 147033 and its 6-coach train of Mark 1 coaches has emerged from Kennaway Tunnel and is running alongside a busy looking Marine Parade, as it arrives at Dawlish whilst working a Paignton to Exeter St Davids local stopping service on April 8th 1980.

37013 at Farington Curve Junction.Переглядів: 037013 trundles along the Up Slow as it approaches Farington Curve Junction whilst working the Saturday only Blackpool North to Sheffield formed of Mark 1 stock on August 13th 1983. This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

08954 at Plymouth.Переглядів: 2With the roof tops of Plymouth as a backdrop, 08954 was shunting parcel and mail vans at Plymouth station on July 26th 1980. This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.Лист 07, 2015

Class 25, 25221 at Wigan Springs Branch.Переглядів: 3Withdrawn Class 25 25221 pokes out from under Warrington Road bridge at the side of Wigan Springs Branch Depot on June 30th 1984. 25221 was originally D7571, built at Derby Works in 1963, it was withdrawn in January 1984 and after lanquishing for a while at Wigan, was scrapped at Swindon Works in 1986.Бер 08, 2015

Class 40, 40082 at Northwich Depot.Переглядів: 6On a damp 9th September 1984, 40082 was stabled outside Northwich Depot between duties. The loco was new from Vulcan Foundry at Newton-Le-Willows in June 1960 as D282. Its first allocation was at York (50A). It spent 13 years as an Eastern Region machine before being transferred to the London Midland Region in 1973. 40082 was withdrawn from service due to power unit damage in November 1984 and was scrapped at Crewe Works in January 1986.

Class 306 EMUs at Leicester (GC).Переглядів: 2Dating from 1949, former Liverpool St-Shenfield Class 306 EMUs, 055, 033, 083 & 078 wait at the entrance to Vic Berrys Scrapyard at Leicester on July 19th 1982. The location is adjacent to the former Great Central Main Line, that last saw a passenger train in 1969 when the DMU service between Rugby and Nottingham was withdrawn. Upperton Road bridge that once spanned the extensive trackwork at this location, was demolished in 2007 - yet another bit of the infrastructure of the old GC Main Line lost forever.Лют 13, 2015
