These were the twilight years of the Deltics, 55001 & 55020 had already been sidelined at this time, 55016 lasted in frontline service until the end of Class 55 operation in December 1981, the locomotive completing 20 years ECML service.

Class 110 'Calder Valley' DMU at Hoscar.Переглядів: 6A long time resident of Bradford Hammerton Street Depot for use on services between Manchester Victoria and Leeds via Bradford, along the old L&Y Calder Valley Main Line, E51822 was working as part of a 2-Car set, seeing out its last days from Newton Heath when photographed on the 6th September 1986. Dating from 1961, the car was bringing up the rear of a Southport to Manchester Victoria Service, calling at the staggered platform of Hoscar Station, a lonely outpost in rural West Lancashire.
Class 40, 40013-'Andania' at Blackburn.Переглядів: 3After being withdrawn from active service in October 1984, 40013 became a London Midland Region Exhibition Loco, and was towed to Open Days and Gala Days as required. Complete with some gaudy embellishments and carrying its name once more, the loco was stabled in the sidings adjacent to Blackburn Station on the evening of the 27th July 1985. The loco was eventually stored at Crewe in 1988 before passing into preservation. All of the buildings in the background in this view have since been demolished.
Western Class 52, D1021-'Western Cavalier' at Swindon Works.Переглядів: 3With rust erupting through its paintwork, a forlorn looking D1021 -'Western Cavalier' stands awaiting scrapping at Swindon Works on a dull January afternoon in 1978. The once-proud locomotive emerged new from Swindon in June 1963 in maroon livery, and lasted in service for just over 13 years, being withdrawn from Plymouth Laira Depot in August 1976. During that time D1021 amassed 1,280,000 miles. The loco was scrapped in February 1979. Just visible behind D1021 is fellow Class 52, D1034 -'Western Dragoon'.
Deltic Class 55, 55007-'Pinza' at Doncaster Works.Переглядів: 4On display at the hastily arranged mini open day at Doncaster Works on February 27th 1982 were all the surviving Deltics, on display for one last gathering. A work-stained 55007 looked as though someone had made a half hearted attempt at cleaning the yellow front. The loco had been named 'Pinza' after the racehorse that won the Epsom Derby and the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot in 1953.The loco was withdrawn from service in December 1981, completing over 20 years of ECML service.

Class 306 EMUs at Leicester (GC).Переглядів: 2Dating from 1949, former Liverpool St-Shenfield Class 306 EMUs, 055, 033, 083 & 078 wait at the entrance to Vic Berrys Scrapyard at Leicester on July 19th 1982. The location is adjacent to the former Great Central Main Line, that last saw a passenger train in 1969 when the DMU service between Rugby and Nottingham was withdrawn. Upperton Road bridge that once spanned the extensive trackwork at this location, was demolished in 2007 - yet another bit of the infrastructure of the old GC Main Line lost forever.Лют 13, 2015
