Class 108 M56266 at Lancaster.Переглядів: 8When some members of the BR diesel Multiple Unit fleet underwent a refurbishment in the 1970s, someone thought that a white livery, replacing the BR Rail Blue, would be a good idea. A class 108, with Driving Trailer Composite M56266 nearest the camera, displays its new livery complete with blue stripe whilst stabled at Lancaster in November 1978. The unit is stood on the short length of track remaining that once formed the link to the Midland Station at Lancaster Green Ayre.

40013 passes Farington Junction.Переглядів: 2With the Leyland Truck & Bus Factory as a backdrop, Class 40 40013 hurries the 11-Coach F&W Railtours 'Cumbrian Whistler' past Farington Junction on the 6th October 1984. The tour had started at Plymouth and 40013 handled the leg from Birmingham New Street to Preston. The train eventually reached journeys end at Workington behind 40028. This was a real swansong for 40013 with a passenger working on the WCML as in days of old, the loco being withdrawn from service just 12 days after this image was recorded.

20199, 20028 & 20198 at Dundee.Переглядів: 3Proving that recessions are nothing new, surplus Class 20s were stored surplus to requirements in the NCL warehouse at Dundee on July 20th 1981. This was a period when industry was contracting and work for locos such as these was drying-up. All the locos here eventually returned to traffic, 20199 was eventually withdrawn in 1990, 20028 and 20198 being withdrawn in 1991. All have since been scrapped.

Class 306 EMUs at Leicester (GC).Переглядів: 2Dating from 1949, former Liverpool St-Shenfield Class 306 EMUs, 055, 033, 083 & 078 wait at the entrance to Vic Berrys Scrapyard at Leicester on July 19th 1982. The location is adjacent to the former Great Central Main Line, that last saw a passenger train in 1969 when the DMU service between Rugby and Nottingham was withdrawn. Upperton Road bridge that once spanned the extensive trackwork at this location, was demolished in 2007 - yet another bit of the infrastructure of the old GC Main Line lost forever.Лют 13, 2015
