Class 76, 76022 at Reddish Electric Depot.3 viewsIt is three months since the 1500V DC Manchester to Sheffield line was closed as a through route, and the Class 76 electrics that plied the route on a daily basis for nearly 30 years, are gathered together on October 3rd 1981 at Reddish Depot awaiting their fate. 76022 had become a minor celebrity as it was the only Class 76 to retain the old Lion & Wheel emblems on its Rail Blue paintwork. It was still hoped that the route would re-open, but it was not to be - 76022 was eventually scrapped in 1983.

Class 108, M54253 at Southport.5 viewsA derby built Class 108 2-car DMU is stabled between duties in Southport carriage sidings on the 10th July 1988. M54253 was a Driving Trailer Composite when built, but had been downgraded to all second class in the 1970s. Most of the railway infrastructure behind the DMU has now been swept away. Visible are the toilet blocks on the disused excursion platforms, the coal depot, the loco shed, and the stable blocks for the former goods yard. Viva & Marina British Rail vans are parked in the yard.
